My practice explores contemporary portraiture through the modern mediums of promarkers, pencils, and water mixable oil paints.

My first series aimed to evoke a feeling or mood in the viewer. The goal is that a viewer recognises the emotion or situation in the subject and feels the familiarity and the “been there!” moment. I enjoy creating a human connection between the subject and the viewer - one of the primal draws of portraiture in the first place.

My second series is a reimagining of classical techniques through modern means- chiaroscuro with promarkers. I explore how the same techniques around value and colour can be reused in a newer format, and play with modern light sources to create the same types of dramatic contrast with modern settings.

Alongside these explorations, I also create portraits in oil paints, promarkers and pencils.
